I keep up with just about everything, but I somehow missed Gibbsy’s announcement that Obama appointed himself chair of the UN Security Council. This is prohibited according to the US Constitution Article 1 Section 9, which states:
No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.
The UN has a standing military force and we have an Ambassador to the UN just as we do to other foreign States. This leads me to believe the UN can be considered a foreign State. Please leave a comment if I am incorrect about this.
I haven’t heard much about this on any news programs, but it seems to me if he is in direct violation, it would be an impeachable offense. One could dare hope.
Secondly, as the Unconstitutional chair, Obama had control of the agenda to be discussed and decided to take the Iranian and North Korean nuclear programs off the table. Does that make any sense? This is the global nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament talks and he doesn’t discuss the two nations who would love to destroy our nation.
I think…no, I know…this President of the United States despises America and betrays her every chance he can.

Sorry to rain on your parade there, but the UN is not a state, foreign or otherwise. It doesn’t meet the characteristics to be considered a state (it doesn’t control territory over which it excersises monopoly of force, it doesn’t raise taxes, it isn’t recognised as a state by other states, &c.) and as a side note it doesn’t have a standing army, immaterial as that fact is.
Having an army and receiving ambassadors is something many states do, but isn’t what makes them states. Hezbollah has an army, but no-one would argue it is therefor a state. The US Permanent Representative to NATO is an ambassador, but NATO is nevertheless an intergovernmental organisation just like the UN – not a state.
The UN is an intergovernmental organisation of which the USA is a founding member. The fact that the US is represented at the UN by an ambassador doesn’t make the UN a state, it merely reflects the fact that the diplomat America sends to represent it is of the same senior Foreign Service rank as the diplomats it sends to other intergovernmental organisations or indeed foreign states.
How exactly does chairing a meeting violate Article 1 Section 9? Unless President Obama drew a salary for chairing the meeting, or they gave him gifts afterwards or something, I don’t see the violation. Perhaps you could elaborate.

I am an independant voter. I am quite concerned about Obama’s ability to scoff at the intentions of the US Constitution and not be held accountable. I wounder how the citizens of this country might be able to start a ‘class action law suit’ against Obama. The UN may not be a country, but because it didn’t exist when our Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution doesn’t mean it voids his responsibility to it in this instance. In fact, the UN has authority over many separate nations and to serve the UN one must make the UN a center piece for their focus. UN does mean “United Nations” after all. I feel that the court would agree with the citizens of “this” country. I don’t like a sitting president to place themself in a position of possible conflict of interest, or even to have a claim put forth that one exists. I want it to stop as soon as possible. What can we do? Thanks.
