The astounding rhetoric and partisan politics streaming from the White House often has me wonder exactly how much damage will be done to this great nation before Obama is removed from the White House. Every day I think we are finished with lies and hypocrisy, but then he does it again. His charm no longer covers up the doublespeak. Unless you are deaf and dumb, you cannot possibly ignore how he has trampled all over our constitution. But a tactic that seems relatively new from this man who occupies 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is one he used just this weekend. I’ve seen Pelosi use it, and Charles Gibson use it. The tactic is “huh? I didn’t know that was happening”, aka ignorance.
Let’s start with ACORN – Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. This organization is funded by the federal government, and works in low income neighborhoods. It does not (or didn’t until recently) have a high profile. However, it has been routinely cited for various illegal activities. Massive voter fraud is just one. In 2006, for example, ACORN registered 1,800 new voters in Washington. The only trouble was, with the exception of six, all of the names submitted were fake. The secretary of state called it the “worst case of election fraud in our state’s history.” This is just one story of dozens accounts of fraud.
However what is also important to note is how much Obama goes hand in hand with ACORN. Toni Foulkes, a Chicago ACORN Leader has boasted that Obama was specifically sought out by ACORN to train it’s leaders, and every year was a key figure in ACORN’s leadership-training seminars. Obama also helped ACORN get funding. He served on the board of the Woods Fund with Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers and frequently gave ACORN grants to fund its activist agenda. Foulkes also has made it clear that Obama’s post-law school organizing of “Project VOTE” in 1992 was undertaken in direct partnership with ACORN. A former White House staff economist also wrote that Obama represented ACORN in a 1994 suit against redlining. Obama again represented ACORN in a 1995 regulatory revision pushed through by the Clinton administration that greatly expanded the CRA and helped spawn the current financial crisis. (CRA is Community Reinvestment Act which is used to intimidate financial institutions into giving what have been called “Ninja” loans — no income, no job, no assets — to people who couldn’t afford them.) In 2007, Obama said “I’ve been fighting alongside ACORN on issues you care about my entire career.”
And then in late 2008, the Pittsburgh Tribune Review stated:
U.S. Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign paid more than $800,000 to an offshoot of the liberal ACORN for services the Democrat’s campaign says it mistakenly misrepresented in federal reports.
An Obama spokesman said Federal Election Commission reports would be amended to show Citizens Services Inc. — a subsidiary of ACORN — worked in “get-out-the-vote” projects, instead of activities such as polling, advance work and staging major events as stated in FEC finance reports filed during the primary.
So Obama gave 800K to ACORN basically, just by another name. To read even more outrageous information about Obama and his ties to ACORN, check here.
Most recently however, ACORN has been recognized for it’s efforts to help prostitutes open brothels by staffing them with underage girls. After a series of incredibly damaging videos were released, showing ACORN employees in five offices all too willing to help a man posing as a pimp and a woman posing as a prostitute shield their “business” from the IRS, Congress has almost been forced to act. The Census Bureau also cut ties with ACORN. The House voted to withdraw housing and urban development funding and the Senate also voted to defund ACORN of all federal funds. Most people say “well it’s about time!”. But this is what our POTUS said in an interview yesterday:
STEPHANOPOULOS: Congress said they should cut off all funding for ACORN.
OBAMA: Is — is — is…
STEPHANOPOULOS: … all funding for ACORN. Are you for that?
OBAMA: Is that true on the other side, as well? Of course that’s true.
STEPHANOPOULOS: How about the funding for ACORN?
OBAMA: You know, it’s — frankly, it’s not really something I’ve followed closely. I didn’t even know that ACORN was getting a whole lot of federal money.
STEPHANOPOULOS: Both the Senate and the House have voted to cut it off.
OBAMA: You know, what I know is, is that what I saw on that video was certainly inappropriate and deserves to be investigated.
STEPHANOPOULOS: So you’re not committing to — to cut off the federal funding?
OBAMA: George, this is not the biggest issue facing the country. It’s not something I’m paying a lot of attention to.
So are we supposed to actually believe this? It sounds to me like he is not going to sign that bill to cut off federal funding, what do you think?
One last tidbit of information.
Chicago is home to Obama, as well as one of ACORN’s strongest chapters. During the House vote, 75 of the 430 Congressman voted “no” to pulling ACORNS funds. All of these were Democrats. Senate voted by a count of 83-7 and the 7 that voted ‘no’ were all Democrats; with the exception of Independent senator from Vermont, Bernie Sanders. Of the remaining six, two were from Barack Obama’s home state of Illinois – Dick Durban (D) and Roland Burris (D).
